How Conservation (Shade Balls) Balls Work

Two main causes of water evaporation in reservoirs are temperature and surface area. Our hollow plastic conservation balls address these two issues effectively and inexpensively.

The black conservation balls provide a floating cover on the reservoir taking up approximately 90% of the surface area. Simultaneously the balls prevent UV rays reaching the water and therefore reducing algae. By their nature, the conservation balls re-arrange themselves to fit any size and shape reservoir. As water levels drop the balls again accommodate the situation by stacking on themselves. When water levels rise the balls return to single layer on the surface.

Conservation balls provide a low cost, low maintenance solution to the high cost evaporation for any City, Municipality or privately owned water reservoir such as ski areas.
